August 2025’s newsletter: “Character Art for Dez and the Iron Prince”
I thought I’d share some of the character art I’ve drawn for my WIP MG fantasy novel, “Dez and the Iron Prince.”
If you were a part of my beta reader team while I was editing the book, these characters might already be familiar! If not, this’ll be your first look at my work.
Either way, I hope you enjoy!

How else to start this off than with the main character? Dez!
Ironically, I find that Dez is the hardest character to draw. He has the simplest design, so the imagine of him in my head is more vague than the others. Like, what exactly *does* his hair look like?

Next up is Prince Casidian– aka Casey.

Dame Saffire– Saf– is the only one I drew using a model. I wanted to draw her in an accurate fighting pose, so I looked up an imagine of a real life person wielding a sword. It’s funny how much a model can make a difference!
The downside is that Saf’s arm is blocking her face. Oh well.

A moment of rest.

Three friends being cute.
(This is when I switched the color of Saf’s gambeson from dark red to brown so she looked less like Spider Man.)

This one almost looks like cover art!

Another drawing that’s a bit like cover art. This was my first attempt at using highlights for depth.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my artwork. It may not be professional, but it’s fun!
Thanks for reading!
