5/1/23 Writing Update

Hello, friend! I’ve got updates for pitch competitions, conferences, and short story submissions this month, so let’s get into it.

Alas, I was not chosen to work with an editor for the twitter event #RevPit. Such is the way of things for an author; we take a lot of chances and get a lot of rejections.

On a happier note, I will be attending the virtual writing summit The Muse and the Marketplace Conference this May [https://museandthemarketplace.com/muse-2023/], during which I’ll have the opportunity to meet with literary agent Kiana Nyugen from the Donald Maas Literary Agency. As I mentioned in my March update, we will be reviewing my query letter, synopsis, and the first five pages of my “Fledged in Storms” manuscript to help me better attract an agent. Fingers crossed!

I’m still in the process of submitting my short stories “The Killer Doll and the Dollmaker” and “A World to Inspire” to online publications. I’ve received a handful of rejections– which is to be expected– but I remain confident that they’ll be picked up somewhere. Even if I can’t find a place for one of these short stories, it’ll simply mean that you’ll have a special surprise in a Dragon Horde newsletter!

In addition, I have a third short story in the works. This story takes place in the world I created for my NaNoRiMo novel in 2022. I likely won’t pursue publishing for this novel until after “Fledged in Storms,” but the short story I hope to send to online publishers this May. You’ll have dragons, elves, and magic rocks to look forward to, so stay tuned for the next writing update to see how it went.

Thanks for reading!
